Contest Rules and Regulations
1. You must be a current University of Waterloo student to enter.
2. There is no limit as to how many entries an artist can submit, but please consider quality over quantity.
3. The t-shirt design must represent SoFA, fine arts, or the Fine Arts Department in some way.
4. The image should not contain any copyrighted material.
5. Entries must be sent to the SoFA gmail account (sofa.uw@gmail.com) by 11:59 p.m. on October 2, 2010 to be considered. The subject line must contain the words “SoFA T-shirt Design Contest 2010.” The email must contain artist’s name and contact information (email is preferred).
6. Image file specifications: All entries must be 600 DPI CMYK for printing quality reasons. Lower resolution images should be sent in for judging, as long as the higher resolution is available when requested. Lower resolution images must be no larger than 200 kb. JPEG, GIF and PNG are acceptable formats.
7. Design, rules and deadlines may be subject to modification.
8. All decisions are final.

Design teams will be accepted, as long as each member’s name is in the submitted email.

2. Artery Representative(s)
a) To facilitate adequate maintenance and operation of the student run Artery Gallery located at 158 King St. in Kitchener, Ontario. Also holds responsibility for possession of Artery keys.
b) To facilitate the staffing at the Artery Gallery. He/She will be responsible for finding volunteers to sit during the hours of operation and will ensure that the gallery is open while following a consistent schedule.
c) Be responsible for the preparation of exhibition openings/closings/events. This also includes organizing set-ups and take-downs of shows.

3. Secretary:
a) Be responsible for taking minutes at SOFA meetings and for making them available to any member upon request with twenty- four (24) hours advance notice.
b) Be responsible for all correspondence of the Society.
c) Take attendance at all general and emergency meetings.
d) To call the meetings to order in the absence of the President and preside until a higher ranking officer returns or until one is elected.

4. Treasurer:
a) To complete all financial paperwork required by ASU.
b) To be responsible for safeguarding all financial records, making sure that these records are kept in good order and that they may be examined and understood by any member with forty- eight (72) hours advance notice.
c) To keep track of all revenues and expenses during the term, making sure that SOFA does not go over-budget. Will act as a consultant to the rest of SOFA regarding financial matters.
d) Be responsible for writing cheques when reimbursing members of SOFA.

5. Media Team
a) To design and print all posters and invitations associated with the Artery Gallery, and with SOFA events.
b) To facilitate posters being put up or taken down in appropriate places, and to seek out permission to do so when required.
c) Be responsible maintaining websites related to SOFA and the Artery Gallery:

iii) and SOFA and Artery facebook pages

6. Events Coordinator(s):
a) To be responsible for the planning and implementation of departmental events (while conferring and collaborating with other executive members)
b) To work with the Media Team in the distribution of media material for the Artery and SOFA.

7. Brush with Art Representative(s):
a) To be responsible for the planning and implementation of the “Brush with Art” program, where Fine Arts students artwork is installed around campus (primarily in Williams coffee pub in University Plaza, as well as offices in the PAS building).
b) Responsible of promotion for the program, as well as collaborating with Fine Arts students to collect their artwork for installation.
c) To install new artwork each term in the designated areas (this includes set-up and take-down of the artwork).

*Note: all members will act as ASU Representatives, and will: 

1. Attend bi-monthly meetings held by the ASU and be a representative of the SOFA society. Will report to other societies about current events being run by SOFA.
2. Will ensure that constitution and budget are provided at the ASU office to certify that funding will be distributed appropriately. The constitution and budget shall be approved by current SOFA members before being submitted to the ASU office.*

This term, we are going to be focusing on fundraising for a new fridge for the ECH lounge. Want to know how to participate? Well, we’ll be selling pop and chips throughout the term at SOFA events, as well as in the 4th year studio from Laura or Carmen, or in the 3rd Year studio from Kristen. Also, we are planning on hosting photo sessions where you can have your artwork photographed for a small fee, or come support the ‘Male Auction’ in March, where UW men will be putting themselves up for auction as dates for the 4th year show and party. All proceeds from these sales/events will go towards the new fridge.

First event of the term: “(this event has)… Nothing To Do With Furniture”
This event will be another meet and greet type event, where SOFA members will introduce themselves as well as talk about what’s happening in the upcoming term. There will also be free cheese and pepperoni pizzas.
When and where will this be? Jan. 13th, 12pm, rm 1218.

Dec.5th at 8pm, in the “Solarium” at the Duke of Wellington (33 Erb St. West, Waterloo). It’s on the lower level of the Atrium if you’ve never been before. Anyway, this is a 19+ event for art students, as well as their friends (and also for any profs who want to party). The ticket price is $3, which will cover the appetizers being served (however, you are in charge of paying for any drinks you buy). Tickets can be bought from the SOFA executives at any SOFA meeting, or you can email us at sofa.uw@gmail.com to let us know where/when you’ll be around the ECH so we can come find you.

Please come out to the next SOFA meeting: Dec. 2nd – 12pm, rm 1218.  You can purchase Pub tickets from us then.

Sadly, Melijewel’s singer was sick and so they were not able to play, but the DJs stepped up and kept the Artery pumping until 12am! Mad dancing happened throughout the night, sometimes even moving right into the Artery window, or out into the street.

 The 3rd year art installation is also a must see, so please come down to the Artery when you can to support their show.

DJ and Band Nite will be taking place Wed. Oct. 14th from 7pm-12am. Artery Gallery, 158 King St. W. Kitchener. Bring $5 (or $3 with a food donation) as your entrance fee. Melijewel will be opening, followed by DJ Elyot Grand, DJ Matt Finn and DJ Worship ! Experience the 3rd year art opening, “Process”, (which will be going from 5:30 – 7pm). Come out and bring your friends too!
